Rescue Me ID: 14-09-16-00055Mallard Duck (female)

Wild Bird    Age: Young Adult

On Sept 6 a Female Mallard Duck came in to my driveway and proceeded to approach me as I was working on my car in my garage. This Duck walked up my driveway, came in to my garage and vocally indicated that it was in need of something. Eventually I figured out that water was what it desired. The next day a second Mallard Duck appeared along with the first. These Ducks were unseparable and have made a home in our driveways and lawns. They walk in the street and root through our lawns. They are extremely friendly, not afraid of humans and can fly if they so choose. On Sept 12 one of the Ducks went missing nd hasn't been seen since. ... (Read More)Neighbors believe that it may have been taken by a preditor. This has left one Duck behind. I have given it water in a large mixing container and only recently started feeding it Cheerios. This Duck stays in one of our Driveways everynight and forages in our lawns. It would be easy to catch though I have never caught one before. I believe that this Duck does not know to migrate and is used to living in sanctuary setting. I also believe that this Duck needs to be moved to a center as it is very vulnerable to become prey to a local predator or killed in the street. I am looking for someone who would be willing to capture it and move it to safer place, if you re interested please contact me. Thank you. (Less)

PIease Read Before Rehabilitating or Rescuing a Wild Bird in Pennsylvania
Wild Bird rescue work in Pennsylvania can be rewarding if this work matches your IifestyIe. Birds in the wild can be accidentally harmed through the intervention of well-meaning people attempting to rescue them. Baby birds and fledglings, especially, may appear vulnerable, injured, or abandoned by their mothers, when in fact they are going through the normal process of learning to fly and leaving the nest. Fledglings with feathers should most often be observed and left alone for a couple of hours if not in any obvious danger. Baby birds that have fallen on the ground should be returned to their nests. However, if a wild bird is genuinely injured, it will receive the best care from a professional Wildlife Rehabilitator. Injured birds should be carefully placed in a box with soft fabric and holes punched in the lid to be transported to a local Wildlife Rehabilitator.

lnteresting Wild Bird Trivia Low-Cost Pennsylvania Spay & Neuter Clinics
The idea that a baby bird which has been touched by a human will be rejected by its mother is a myth. Male cardinals know about two dozen different songs used in the process of mating with female cardinals. New Caledonian Crows make and use a wide variety of their own tools and can also distinguish between humans based on their facial features.
